Frequently Asked Questions

View answers to frequently asked questions about our Cultivating Careers program.

The majority of our programs are funded by grants or private donations which means it is offered to you at no cost. We want more people to have stable, living-wage careers rooted in purpose.

We have strong relationships with employers across Central Iowa in top industries like healthcare, education, customer service, skilled trades, logistics, and more. While we don’t guarantee placements, we work closely with participants to match their strengths and goals with opportunities in the community.

Our only requirements are a High School Diploma or equivalent, ability to work in the U.S., and ready to commit and make a change.

Please consider technology needs for online classes such as a stable internet connection, appropriate devices to complete activities and engage in class such as a desktop computer, laptop, or tablet with keyboard.

After you enroll, you’ll receive a confirmation email with key dates, times, and information based on what you filled out on the enrollment form. A team member will also give you a welcome call to answer any questions. By the time class starts, you’ll have everything you need to feel prepared and supported.

This can be a personal preference or simply the times you have available to attend. If you live in the Des Moines area and are able to attend in person, we highly encourage you to do so.

Cultivating Careers is offered nine times a year, with cohorts beginning in January, February, March, May, June, July, September, October, and November. Each cohort includes 24 hours of class time spread over 12 sessions. Participants should also plan for 1–2 hours of reflective and practical homework per week, along with two or more hours of one-on-one coaching during the month.

To accommodate different schedules and learning preferences, classes are available both online and in-person, in the morning (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday).
